The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Melina Bath has taken the Andrews Government to task over unsafe and substandard roads in and around Pakenham.
Speaking in State Parliament Ms Bath said the community was justifiably concern that deteriorating road surface in Pakenham was causing major structural damage to vehicles.
“More funding needs to be allocated to repair the appalling state of our roads.
“Too much of the state’s funding has been wasted by city centric infrastructure projects and billion cost blow outs due to Labor’s project mismanagement.
“Meanwhile outer suburbs on the regional fringe like Pakenham are sacrificed.
“The poor maintenance being undertaken on our roads is causing a major safety hazard for motorists.
“Many of those severely damaged vehicles are costing thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses for residents and insurance companies.
Ms Bath said she had received specific complaints regarding the appalling state of the Old Princes Highway and the Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road.
“These roads have been reported to me as being shoddy, uneven, riddled with potholes and dangerous to manoeuvre,” said Ms Bath.
“The Andrews Government likes to spruik it’s TAC Towards Zero roads campaign, but it’s actions don’t match the rhetoric when it comes to roads safety.
“Labor demands are cars are roadworthy but does very little to ensure our roads are car worthy.
It’s imperative that the Minister for Roads and Roads Safety take locals’ concerns seriously and expediate funding for both these roads.
